HR Healthcheck

by | Nov 28, 2023 | HR Blog

It is often a minefield for SMEs and small Charities when it comes to HR.  Often the person responsible for this area is ‘handed’ the title of HR person, in addition to their main role within the business.

Luckily, there are great resources out there to support those that have the stress of this extra responsibility.  ACAS and gov.uk are great examples, with sites full of free downloadable resources to get you started with those policies and procedures that are required by law.  However, what happens when the business starts to grow out-with the basics?  Or when the business is keen to do more to be an Employer of Choice?  That’s where we can help.

What is an HR Healthcheck?

A HR Healthcheck or HR audit is a study of a workplace’s HR practices. It looks at the businesses current policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with employment law, as well as those that businesses might like to introduce as a company grows, expectations increase, and new working ways start to become more prevalent.

For SME’s a Healthcheck might be done initially and then not for another few years.  Larger organisations with more resources, tend to review more often.  Regular HR audits ensure your business stays up to date with the latest employment laws. This includes HR policies, hiring practices and the company’s handling of employee information.

The Benefits

  • Keeps you legal!  As things change legislatively throughout the years, and more so in recent years with Flexible Working, more awareness of Menopause and Neurodiversity in the workplace, a Healthcheck ensures your business stays up to date.  This includes HR policies, recruitment practices and the company’s handling of employee information (the dreaded GDPR!)
  • Leaves you time to concentrate on business strategy… and the fun stuff!
  • Flexibility – our packages can be Pay as You Go for those that don’t need us all that often, or Retainer, for others that need increased confidence and are growing as a Team.

What does an HR Healthcheck include?

  • Check and Amend Current Employment Contracts.
  • Undertake gap analysis of current policies & discuss other policies relevant to align with current business practice.
  • Review of Key HR processes already in place.
