The positive force in our workplace

Meet the WREN girls of Royal Navy Air Station, Donibristle, Fife:

Helen E, Helen M and Chrissie D.

In 1941, they used their girl power to repair damaged aircraft and fly transport planes to “free a man for the fleet.” In other words, they took over a ‘man’s job’ (on less pay) to allow more men to join the air fleet.

After all, back then, the air fleet was no place for a woman…

… unless you were a pin-up girl, painted onto the fuselage of an aircraft.

Despite their plight, the camaraderie between the service women is clear and serves as a reminder of how a sense of trust, loyalty and goodwill between team-mates is such a positive force in our workplaces.

A positive force in our workplace that creates human-to-human bonds and builds team spirit.

Moreover, a positive force in our workplace that reduces stress, increases productivity and improves employee engagement.

Our WREN girls faced adversity with camaraderie.

Surely, we can do this too by developing workplace cultures of collaboration and camaraderie and switching our attitudes from…

  • Certainty to Curiosity
  • Impact to Intent
  • Blame to Contribution

… when workplace conflict arises.

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” Winston Churchill
