The Client & Their Needs

The client operates in the hospitality industry.

Following a period of unrest within the organisation and complaints from employees and their Union regarding terms and conditions, the client contacted McKinney HR to ask for Facilitated Conversation Support.

The McKinney HR Facilitator (a qualified Mediator) reviewed all relevant information including the complaints from employees and planned for Facilitated Conversations – both one to one and joint meetings.

The Facilitated Conversation aims to secure constructive and lasting solutions to workplace conflicts.
The facilitator planned meetings to include:

  • Agreeing ground rules
  • Talk time from both parties with the facilitator summarising and discussing the impact/consequences on both parties.
  • Exchange – both parties able to talk to each other.
  • Resolution –Looking at the areas where a resolution is needed. To include reality check for both parties as well as testing ideas of compromises and solutions with each side


‘One to one’ meeting with the owner of the organisation to understand their challenges and possible resolves.

A meeting was then held with employee reps and their Union representation to understand their viewpoints and possible resolves.

A joint facilitated meeting was then held to allow both sides time to speak and compromises from both discussed.

The Facilitator then typed up the notes of the joint meeting alongside the agreements made and distributed to both parties for approval.


There were 2 joint meetings required to resolve the situation.

The Facilitator then helped the Organisation to update any relevant policies that would help support new agreements.
